Cave no.19: Haven of Unsent Sails
2025 | Ink, colour and copper leaf on paper | 101 x 56 cm
This work depicts a view from within a cave gazing outward, where objects inside are arranged in an orderly yet surreal manner, forming an inner world detached from reality. At the centre, a cargo ship lies anchored, suspended in time and space. Beyond the cave, scattered islands symbolise diverse places or states of being, with ships navigating among them, seeking their respective havens to unload and settle. This work reflects an exploration of belonging and hesitation. Rendered in copper foil, the sun outside oxidises and changes hue over time, signifying the real world in opposition to the cave’s constructed realm, inviting contemplation of the boundary between reality and imagination.
