Cave no.6 第6窟

2023 |  Ink, colour and copper leaf on paper | 51.5 x 70 cm

The artwork captures a moment of alienation aboard a ferry. One evening, I boarded the vessel to the other shore, a stark contrast to the empty, tranquil journeys of the pandemic, now engulfed by crowded strangers and unfamiliar tongues. Gazing at the flickering screens on distant skyscrapers, a profound emptiness arises, transforming the familiar into the foreign, as if all connections have dissolved into a nameless void. Outside the frame, radiant ferries and a glowing sun evoke a bustling, noisy world; within, a solitary, unlit ferry at rest recalls the passengerless voyages of the pandemic. Through the ferry’s setting, the work articulates the isolation and disconnection of modern urban life, prompting reflection on belonging and identity.
