The artwork presents a tumultuous seascape, with continuous massive waves cresting and breaking across the surface; swirling ink and metallic lustres interweave into a tense, turbulent world. In the middle-lower section, a cargo ship pushes forward with difficulty amidst the peril, seemingly searching for its last refuge in an endless drift.

In the upper-left, a solitary lighthouse stands, emitting a dim, isolated beam of light, guiding this lonely vessel—yet the journey is long, and the light of guidance appears faint, a lingering yet uncertain expectation. The smoke generated as the ship propels forward is crafted from oxidised silver foil; over time, the silver dims, discolours, and diffuses, symbolising how the traces of progress are never fixed, and also implying perpetual instability.

More silent and formidable are the multiple patches of similar silver-foil smoke scattered throughout the sea, devoid of any ship’s body—these are the spectral signals left by submerged predecessors, silently emerging and vanishing, a reminder to the viewer: countless drifters have already sunk in the formless ocean, leaving only echoes of signals amidst the waves, subsequently forgotten by the gears of time. The composition is constrained by the rigid boundaries of the paper, as if the entire landscape were imprisoned by an invisible frame, unable to break free.
