The Cabinet of Waves

2026 | Ink and colour on paper | 58 x 42 cm

In this artwork, the cabinet once again emerges as the absolute dominant subject, constructing a thoroughly enclosed and oppressive space with almost no apertures.

The contents archived within this cabinet are no longer tangible islands, lighthouses, or intact vessels. Instead, they are arrested moments of "colossal waves" and "ships in distress." Those sensory experiences and external upheavals—once tumultuous, perilous, and capable of consuming everything—have been meticulously dismantled, categorised, and "preserved" by the artist within uniform compartments. These waves no longer flow; they no longer possess destructive power. Instead, they have been transformed into static, frozen images, as if fragments of turbulent memory have been permanently sealed away within an absolutely secure archival system. Through this act of filing, the artist seeks to hold onto these memories, serving as a constant reminder of the unspeakable dangers that once prevailed.
