The Shades of Stones draws inspiration from Echigo folk songs “Bird Chasing Song” and “Crow Dance”, combined with Hong Kong's Cantonese traditional singing Naamyum (南音) music “A Wanderer’s Autumn Grief ”. Laser-cut stones patterns are etched onto Echigo-Kadode’s washi paper, creating three light installations. The slowly rotating silhouettes create dynamic light patterns that correspond to the vocal performance in the companion piece.
