This artwork presents a completely enclosed, windowless interior. The viewer is only permitted to peer at the surging, ceaseless ocean outside through a few narrow, grid-like apertures in the wall.
A massive cabinet dominates the centre of the composition. The artist has meticulously "archived" elements originally belonging to the vast outer world—islands, lighthouses, and ships—into its individual compartments. It is as if the entire tumultuous landscape of an era has been "objectified" and "collected" into a private, seemingly impregnable sanctuary. The lighthouses that once offered guidance, the ships drifting in search of home, and the islands symbolising solid reliance are now cautiously installed within these grids, becoming specimens that are both protected and sealed away.
Beside the cabinet, a potted plant has shed most of its leaves; its branches appear desolate and fragile, as if enduring a protracted winter. This quiet withering of internal vitality stands in stark contrast to the outer world, "safely" preserved within the cabinet. The work reveals an ultimate paradox of existence: in our attempt to seek refuge through "collection"—locking the entire world into a private cupboard—the true winter has already bypassed the barriers, descending upon the most intimate reaches of the soul.
